Studio Parti takes its name from the parti — the single organising idea that a building is arranged around. Find it early and everything else gets easier.
Design and site follow-through stay in the same hands, from the first site visit to the last snag — no handover part-way, and no drawings produced by someone who has never stood on the site.
Real time goes into the parts of a building nobody photographs: the thickness of a wall, where a door swings, how you get from the car to the kitchen carrying shopping in the rain.
We work in both housing and commercial projects on purpose. Each one keeps the other honest — domestic work teaches you about comfort, commercial work teaches you about time and money.

Four things we keep coming back to.
One idea, not five
A building that is trying to do five clever things does none of them well. We pick the idea that solves the most problems at once and let the rest of the design serve it.
Plan before style
Style is the last decision, not the first. If the plan is right the building will look like itself, and it will still look like itself in thirty years.
Repair before replace
The lowest-carbon building is usually the one already standing. We start by asking what can stay, and we are happy to be talked out of demolition.
Ordinary materials, done well
We would rather use a common brick, laid carefully, than a rare one laid badly. Budget goes into workmanship and detail, not into specification for its own sake.
